The Space That Holds Us

Spatial explorations of connection, texture, and transformation

The series The Space That Holds Us builds upon my earlier body of work, Duration, which focused on vacant spaces and moments of transition. While that previous work captured spaces in flux, this new series goes further by exploring how space not only surrounds us, but also carries, shapes, and connects us.

Throughout the series, the paintings move along the edge between abstraction and figuration. By combining reflections, nuanced colour usage, and layered structures, a visual language of suggestion and symbolic resonance begins to unfold. In particular, thread patterns—sometimes bold, sometimes dissolving into the background—create visual and conceptual unity. To me, they represent a flexible framework of interconnectedness within which we live as human beings.

As a result, the works invite reflection on our relationship with the environment—not as something external, but rather as something we are fundamentally part of.
We are not separate from nature; we are nature.

Consequently, this series becomes a visual inquiry into how we perceive ourselves through the lenses of space, structure, and light.

Moreover, by employing a stencil print technique, I can repeat certain forms across different backgrounds. This enables variation in colour and texture while maintaining a cohesive visual vocabulary. In doing so, the works reinforce both repetition and uniqueness within a shared form.

Ultimately, The Space That Holds Us explores space as a living field of relationships—a place of presence, projection, and meaning.
